The Supreme Council of Ukraine approved a law freeing imported vehicles equipped with electric motors from taxes.
Since hydrogen cars are also equipped with electric motors, this law also covers them!
According to the explanatory note, the law is designed to protect the environment, ensure energy independence of Ukraine, provide access for Ukrainians to the latest developments and technologies, improve quality and reduce the cost of passenger traffic in Ukraine.
The objective of the law is to create conditions to reduce the cost, and therefore help to popularize electric vehicles in Ukraine. According to calculations of the Ministry of Economic Development, the cost of the tax was around 8% of the total price of a car.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Council of Ukraine has refused to support the law which provides temporary, until 1 January 2020, the VAT exemption for imported electric vehicles. The law was sent for revision.
