On behalf of the Ukrainian Association for Hydrogen Energy we congratulate the team of the Kiev Taras Shevchenko National University on obtaining the Honorable Mention Certificate at the Hydrogen Student Design Contest 2010. The winners of the competition were announced on May 4 at the USA's largest annual conference on hydrogen energy.The winners received a free registration at the conference, lodging in Los Angeles for the duration of the conference and an invitation to give a poster presentation at the NHA Conference and Hydrogen Expo.

The aim of this competition was the technical design and economic analysis of hydrogen community in Santa Monica, California, USA. 33 teams from the USA, Canada, India, and China participated in the competition, and for the first time in the history of the competition a team from Ukraine participated in it too. The panel of judges included industry representatives and leading scientists working in this field. Rationality of technologies used in the project, economical efficiency, environmental factor, clearness of the exposition were taken into account when evaluating the projects.

The awarding ceremony and the project presentation took place in the main conference hall of the Hyatt hotel on the first day of the conference. The governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger made a speech at the conference, as he is the one who made the state one of the foremost in introducing alternative energy sources.

Along with the conference the Hydrogen Expo took place, where the latest achievements of hydrogen technologies - fuel cells, electrolyzers, compressors, hydrogen storage and transportation systems, as well as hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, KIA and General Motors were presented. Winners of the competition were able to make a test-drive of the newest hydrogen cars for free, the mass production of which is only planned so far.
